  • Do Not Use Synthetic Oils In Our Festivas

I have two articles out of a quarterly publication to the machine shop i sometimes part-time at.

Its called Engine Professional and the articles have to deal with the new formulations of motor oil and how camshafts and other components having adverse reactions to what the oil companies have removed over the past few years out of dino oil .

I will scan the article tonight and post it later here.

i've been reading about it also for a while also. from what i have read, all most all cars since 1990 have roller camshafts and the zinc and phosphorus they have taken out of the motor oils will not hurt them. but cars with flat tappet camshafts may get wiped out by the new formulated oils. is this what you have heard?

couldn't log in to photobucket, but that doesn't sound right. there are many many old musclecar guys that run flat tappet cams on synthetic oils. synthetic oils have to meet the same standards and specifications that conventional oils do, so there should be no difference. if it's the different additives you're worried about they're in the dinosaur oil too. what laborotory did those two articles?

Bringing this thread back too. When I started taking my tbirds top end apart, it was obvious the stock slider cam was wiped, every lobe and follower. I had been running synthetic since I got the car 3 years earlier. Now, it could have been the 170,000 miles on it, or it coulda been the oil. But going by all this, Im gonna say oil.

Now Ive heard synthetic diesel oil still has the zinc and phosphorus. So I may just switch to synthetic rotella.

^^Maybe its low oil pressure, blocked port or high levels of exhaust gas in the engine.
Not sure if your t'bird has an oil pressure gauge...if it's an idiot light only...remember the lights only come on when pressure is verry very low...by the time it comes on, damage could have been done.

Yeah its got a gauge. Pressure was always good. I discussed it with the guys at turboford and they pretty much all agreed on it being the oil.

Not all synthetic oils are made equal. There are some out there that are made with friction modifiers to do what the zinc used to do.
