I'm all for it. I say we wait for warmer weather. Indiana weather still hasn't decided if it wants to be spring yet or not. I've gone from heat to A/C a few times now.

yes i have been there too.. i don't want it to get warm tho cause it's going to be freaking hot...i was thinking about doing a aspire break swap but a guy told me to do the tranny swap and make it a 5 spd i want to but it's going to be hard... have you done it or are you cars both factory 4 spds.

Yep both 4 speeds. I agree with whoever told you that though. A 5-speed swap would be much more of a benefit then the brake swap IMO. You would get better gas mileage due to the overdrive gear.

Oh white smoke would be from coolant not oil.

No I mean you have coolant getting into the cylinders somehow. That's what causes white smoke from the exhaust. Could be a head gasket.

dude check your transmission. look around if it has a lot of black wetness maybe that's where your oil is going. as for the head gasket, you have to take off the whole top end to put it there and if you do that much, take it and get it checked out and make sure it hasn't warped. if it has, you need it fixed or a new one. then you might as well get it bored etc so yeah man it's a job but you might want to think about trying to buy a second engine maybe? if you can get one cheap just do that and clean it up and get new seals. then do a full swap without any extra work in between. less downtime. as for driving, you can make it i'm sure but you'll use a lot more gas than usual because it'll be running like crap. keep plenty of coolant and watch your temperature because it can over heat easy and if it gets too hot the head will definitely warp.

i could be wrong about this but i'm pretty sure im not... o_o

what do you mean maybe thats where your oil is going like it's pouring down the car somewhere?? well i went to a shop and they said it would cost me about 700 dollars to change a head gasket and have it sent to a machine shop..

Just a thought.. how many miles/kilometres are on your motor? Do a compression test if you can. Oil maybe could be leaking into the cylinder if the piston rings were bad? my festiva is OLD, and i am almost sure it has oil leaking in through the piston rings, and my motor sounds like a sewing machine. Similar problem maybe?
