My Festiva is a 1993. I am thinking I would be good with any manual
from 1988 to 1993. Am I correct in thinking that?
I took my car to the dealer because of the special tools needed. I
told them to check out the bearings because that was what I suspected
the noise I had was. They replaced some bearings
and said the others were fine. The car was still making the same
noise. They told me it was the differential in the transmission.
They said it could last a day or the rest of the life of the car. It
was recommended to me to get a used transmission, which I did two
years later after listening to that stinking noise the whole time!
After buying a used transmission and paying to have someone put it
in, I found out the transmission I just bought was a 4 speed when
it was suppose to be a 5 speed! Then the car made the same exact
noise! A friend of my helped me put my old transmission back in and
we noticed the bearings on the front driver's side were totally shot!
So I took it back to the dealer and they charged me $275 to replace
the two bearing on the front driver's side which should have been
replaced two years ago!
This is why I am so ready to do all my own work!
Anyone else have trouble with such things?
