Sorry if this has already been covered I couldnt find it. I went to the trusty haynes manual and it says consult a professional if you have an 88 or 89. I understand it is in the distibutor? Does this involve removing the distributor or just the cap and rotor to get at it? And is this really a $180 part? Thanks,Aaron

Just remove the cap, rotor, and a "dust cap thingy". Remove the couple screws that hold it in and pull the wire connections off it. Remember where the wires get reconnected. Rock Auto is selling the whole distributor at a "close out" price of $104.00.

Like Worfdog said, you get the ICM, but you don't get the wire that plugs into it. So don't damage it when you take the wire off the old one because you will need to reuse it.You gonna race that thing?

There is some info about te moduel at www.ncf.ca/~ag384/Cars.htm . For long life protect it from static electricity (it into a plastic bag) and bed it in dielectric heat transfer paste.Original owner of silver grey carburetted 1989 Festiva. 105k km as of June 2006. 140k km as of June 2021.
