Well I know what everyone is going to say but I will ask for ideas anyway, I just did a re-ring kit on my 88 festiva lx. All went great, It was pulled down for the excesive smoke and the oil rings were stuck... anyway I put everything back together knowing that block and head were fine because it didnt lose antifreze before and while trying to start it It blows the radiator cap off of it. If you put water in it the water shoots out with the compresion stroke of #4 cylinder. Im very heart broken at this point any ideas would be helpful. I think the head gasket didnt seat right. What do yall think?

that sounds like what may have happened. did you have the head checked while it was off? it's possible that if you did not loosen the head bolts a little at a time you may have warped the head while removing it or like you said it may have shifted while putting the head back on. if was me i would definitly have the head checked before putting the head back on,and would check the block for warpage also.1960 willys pickup

Sure sounds like a leaking head gasket. We had that happen with our p.o.s. 3.8L Ford which are known for blowing head gaskets. We added water to the radiator after it was running hot and when we turned the engine over one revolution with the radiator cap removed, water shot up to the top of the hood. You gonna race that thing?

Messy test to try....but it will help idendify the problem
1) pull the plugs.
2) take a shop vac and put the hose on the exhaust...blower
3) stuff the hose in the top of the radiator and fill the gap with some wet rags. Clamp/pinch the over flow hose if necessary.
4) turn the vac/blower on and inspect the spark plug ports.
If you had no problems previously...i would suspect the head got bound on one of the locating dowels.Joe Lutz
