  • Rear drum question

I had a friend buy a set of shoes for his rear brakes today and he tried to put them on and from what i could tell over the phone he said they looked "too wide". So i got on here and looked it up and couldn't find anything on the matter.

I texted Packrat and he said that he recalled when buying a set the clerk asked what size he needed and he picked the smaller ones which worked fine. I can only assume my friend got the bigger ones.

Does anyone know why there 2 sizes offered and how to tell which size you'll need? I'm pretty sure that when they resurface a drum they don't bother the width so I can't see a need for another size other than different brakes alltogether.

Just put new shoes on this weekend, never been aked about "what size"!
Have probably changed 1/2 doz sets from Indiana to Virinia and have always asked for "rear shoes for '93 Ford Festiva" and always given a set similar to what I removed.

I have never seen a option on shoe size before either. Could you get the part number off the box and post it? I'll cross it in my system and see if he got the wrong shoes. Or he could just go to advance and get the right ones.

Possibly, I wasn't there. I've never done rear brakes on mine so I don't know.

I'll see if I can get a part number but he probably threw the package away if he fixed it. He didn't have anymore questions after I asked if there were two options.

He was "in the zone" and ours are kinda ghetto.
