got rear ended now i need to pop the hatch open

ok like it says I got rear ended and the hatch got jammed. so how should I go about getting it open. Fresh paint job and there is just a indent in the bumper cover, and I do not want to repaint any thing so no hammering on the outside, no slide hammer. I was told I could do it with a screw driver but i tried with no luck..... any ideas?!?

I assume the hatch was unlocked when you were bumped. Any chance the little locking lever on the latch assy got moved to the lock position when you got hit? If so, it's accessible from the inside and you can move it to the unlock position. I had to do that once for some reason - forgotten now, it wasn't a collision but that did the trick.

there is an arm the rod from the pop lever moves put screw driver in and push it all the way over and it poped right open. Moved the u hook and realigned it and it works perfect now.
