  • Electrical woes...

OK, so I hit a deer with my one of my ugly blue '90 Festiva LX 5-speed about 2 years ago now, and it has had problems with the electrical system since. I would really hate to junk this car because even at 176,000 miles it still runs better than my '90 L+ Automatic with 120,000 miles.

Anyway, when the accident happened it tore quite a few wires loose in the engine compartment due to corrosion. There was a little black box on the strut tower on the drivers side, that had a "main" labeled wire input and some other stuff. It appeared that this box was just a fancy way of having all the wires spliced together, so that's what I did, cut all the wires and spliced them together (since they were all torn out of the box anyway), and it has ran under it's own power since. Before that it was dead as dead could be.

However, now I have no dash lights (except clock), the seat-belts don't work, and my parking lights and turn signals do not work. I looked for a specific fuse on the fuse box that controls the seat-belts and parking lights and such, but there was no labeled fuse for them. Anyone know what number fuse controls them? Aside from that, I have looked for some more broken wires, but to no avail I have not found any.

At least the car moves around now, I guess. For awhile there it has been a lawn ornament.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

ummm that "splice" box as u put it is the fuseable link box. U need to redo that properly or if u over load the wiring u will have a fire. The other problems could b grounds. Little black deals with about 5 black wires running to it and uses one bolt to bolt to the unibody. Could b a bad ground. Meter fuse, stop fuse, the relay by the air box check that that is the park markers, dashlights, rear lights. If that goes all u have are head lights and brake lights. I'd redo the fuseable links and check that relay and post back, and we will go from there. you do have a haynes manual right? if not get one!

Yeah, fuseable link, that's it. I couldn't think of the word. Anyway, I'm aware it is a potential fire issue, but I don't even know where you would get one of those aside from a junkyard, and to buy one from a auto parts store I'm sure you'd have to replace the whole harness. I'm not looking to doing that. I checked a good amount of the grounds, all appeared good. I'll check the relay by the air box later on today. Yep, all it has is headlights (and high beams) and brake lights. Yep, I have several Haynes manuals, but unsure if they are recent enough, I'll check that too.

pretty sure it is a bad connection or no connection at that relay. yep junk yard is the best place for the fusable link box.
