  • Decapitation assistance.

So, I'm doing a valve job. Well, I'd like to be doing a valve job. I've checked everything, and the head is completely unbolted and everything is detached.

In spite of prying, hammering(wood block between), and pulling my guts out, the head will not budge. Is there some special secret way of breaking it loose? I'm out of ideas.
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

You sure you have all the bolts out? I've forgotten a bolt more than once.

I've checked everything at least 4 times. I can't find any more bolts.

Count your head bolts. You should have 10 of them.
        You gonna race that thing?

tap the head side to side with a hammer (with wood between to prevent damaging head) side to side a few whaps each....also, if that doesn't work, pry it with a screw driver and go easy in a few different areas around the head and any 'damage' you can polish when they are apart.

There is a tab at the front of the engine at the mating area of the head to the block that allows you to get a bite with a small prybar. I gently pried mine there and it broke the whole head loose nicely.

If the manifolds are still attached...push donwn on one and pull up on the other...reverse direction...shouold not take to much effort.

OH I JUST REMEMBERED...there's a bracket between the block and the intake manifold...it needs to be removed.

Got it. Beat it to death for nothing.

A tire tool did the job with a weak push downward. Makes me sick.

Did you pull your intake off? There's a brace that goes from the head to the block that you can not see if the intake is on.

I had the same issue when I replaced the gasket on the 1.3. The old gasket was just so well matted to the head and block it wouldn't come apart, I had to reem on it for like 10 minutes before it loosened up. Glade you got at it.

I have a pry bar that will pop it off on the first try. Let me go get a picture of it after i donate plasma.
