  • Adjusting Emergency Brake?

Any idea why the emergency cable adjusting nut won't tighten or loosen the cable? It just spins. Am I missing something or is there a trick?

Hopefully you are reffering to the nut under the e-brake handle....
    If you yeild no results.....either:
-the cable is streched beyound use
-the cable is detached at the adjuster or the brakes hardware is not properly installed.
    -the cable is broken

Be advised that adjusting the brake cable is not normal maintenance. Failure of the hand brake usally indicates a problem other than the cable.

I would only begin to suspect a problem with the cable if the handle went fron the full down to full up position without any resistance felt.

I can pretty much at this point pull the handle all the way back with very little resistance from the cable.

The "trick" would seem to be to get under the car and take a look at the cable.
You'll also want to look behind the rear wheels at the linkage which can rust and stop working. It's really exposed to water and dirt from the road down there. The little pin (clevis pin) should be lubricated. I smear grease on mine.
