  • 89 festiva L repair questions

OK I'm not too mechanically inclined so I was wondering if the rocker arms are all the same in my car and cause I'm having trouble finding a replacement could i use one from a festiva from a different year and if so does it matter if its carbed or FI

if it's a manual trans car with a carburetor only rockers off a carbed car will fit. all automatics have hydralic valve adjusters.

Look at the end of the rocker arm where it pushes on the valve. If there is a short screw and a nut, then you have mechanical adjusters. If it looks like there is nothing on that end of the rocker arm, then it is a hydraulic adjuster.

These cars are getting old and unless you have owned the car since it was new, there's no guarantee that someone hasn't replaced the head or engine with a different year part. If this happens, then your request for a part could be wrong if you base it on what was originally in the car. Figure out whether you need a mechanical or a hydraulic adjusted rocker arm and post your WTB that way. All mechanicals are the same and all hydraulics are the same regardless of model or year.

i beleive hydraulic lifters will work on an engine that came with mechanical lifters

i have a spare B3 which has (pretty sure) hydraulic lifters

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

They will and I like my hydraulics alot more than the old ones. Replace 'em with anything newer than an '89. Just buy the whole rocker arms. Just never use rollers like from an Aspire unless you can use the cam too which you can't 'cause of your mechanical fuel pump.
