  • Having trouble removing drive axle from rotor/hub asssembly! HELP!

I have removed many drive axles on Festiva's, however this is my first drive axle removal on an Aspire. I'm having trouble removing the axle from the hub/rotor assembly. I have tried everything I can think of to remove it. This thing is seized in tight! 97 Aspire automatic transmission, passenger side axle. Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks, Mike

Can you tell us what you have tried?

My first suggestion is heat. I have found very little that an oxy/acetalyne torch doesnt loosen.

My ultimate choice Would be the "BFH" and if that doesn't work the "MDID"

        Thanks,

Thanks for the reply's on my second question. I really need advise on how to get that drive axle out of the hub. It should just slide out, however it's stuck! I have give it many hard blows and it still won't budge. I don't want to use a torch and ruin the rotor and bearing ect. Any advise would be appreciated!

                  Thanks, Mike

Take it out of the car and use a press.

Are Aspires that much different than Festivas? Never messed with an Aspire at all. But when I did my festiva's halfshafts, all I had to do was loosen the big nut, disconnect the shock/strut so the hub assembly could swing out, and tap the end of the axle. Is it that dry in there that the axle is fused to the hub? Just curious, guess I got lucky with that on mine. Sounds like heat and force are what's called for.

I got it out using a large puller that bolts onto the rotor using the lug bolts. I bolted it on then struck the end of the puller with a large hammer. I repeated this many times until it was removed. Thanks for all the input, Mike

the easiest i have found in chalk the tires and with the wheels on and everything, break that bad boy hub loose. long enough cheater bar helps brake this stubbon nut. if you haven't tried this, stick your wheels back on, lower the jack, chalk wheels and turn.
                            good luck
