  • Starts and Dies!! Help me diagnose!

    Hello All!

I've had a 1993 Festiva for a few years now and I love it!
I've done all the repairs myself so far, including replacing the trannie.
It's sick right now and I need to figure out what's wrong.

So, I can start it and it will run as long as I keep revving the gas.
As soon as I take my foot off the gas though, it sputters and rather quickly dies.

    That's it.

    Any ideas??

    Much Thanks,
    Cheryl

the above may be correct. i have a real loose one and have to keep moving the wire sometimes to keep it running. this is what you do. let someone give it a little gas then move the vaf plug in to see if the rpm changes.

The fuel pump runs off the MAF sensor when the key is "on". In the start position, it runs off another circuit. Don't recall which but the MAF circuit sounds likely it could cause your fuel pump to shut off.

So I'm gonna look up the diagram of the circuits to/from the MAF and then jiggle around and see if I can get some reaction.
In the case that nothing changes, what would be the next thing to check?

          Thanks for the replies, guys!
