  • 1990 EGI Fusable Link

My 1990 1.3L just died on the road. It ended up being the EGI fusable link which seems easy enough to replace but none of the auto parts stores can even find it in their system inventory. Anyone have any idea what size this would be? I can make my own link if I know what gauge to have. Thank you for any help.

Don't need to make a fusiable link!
    Use a 30 or 35Amp cartridge fuse.
TSB says replace OEM fusiable link with 30 amp one, but cartridge fuse will work fine.
I use a 35 amp cartridge fuse because it is easily found(Autozone, advanced, carquest, etc.) and plentiful in the JY Mazda's.
Issue is why did it fail?
If because of old age, likely I beleive, then replace and good to go.
However, if it was due to a electrical short, then the replacement will suffer the same fate very quickly.
Will see if I can find the thread with a pic of the cartridge fuses
We have addressed this enough that we should make a sticky if we can get some good pics and notes.

If you absolutely NEED an fuseable link you could go to a junkyard and get one from a festiva, but I would not recommend this. I replaced mine with cartridges and they work great. btw you probably need to know that the order in the box is (I think) red, green, red.I'll have to doubble check

          Thank you

You guys are the best, thank you so much. I'm proud to be a Festy owner! With this great support when you need it, I appreciate it. It was 99 degrees out when I broke down, ugh. Now I'm headed out to buy what I need. Thanks again!

unable to find fusable link over 10 amp.

I'm not sure a cartridge fuse will work because it has large male spade connectors facing the wrong direction. I was thinking about using an inline fuse. Will that work? I've called all the auto parts stores in Orlando and they don't have anything over a 10 amp fusable link. Ugh. I have a 14 gauge fusable link but no idea how many amps it holds. Thank you for any help.

Then you have the wrong cartridge fuses!
                See Mattswabb pic above.
The one on the right is the type you need!
They are available at Advanced, Autozone, Carquest, O'Riley's, and I have even seen then at Wal-mart at times.
I run a green 35 amp in the center and a pink 25 amp one on each side of it!
THey technically are too high an amperage but they have been working fine in both festivas for about 6 yrs now!
If you need a set I can spare one.
                PM me.

Make sure they have "long legs" like the pic Matt put up.

I don't think Ogre's pic shows the right ones. Those have no legs at all!

Get 'em in the junkyard in Mazdas or maybe Aspires.

                      Thank you all, it works!!!

Safety Guy that was my problem, I wasn't understanding how the "no legs" was going to fit into the area. But I got it working. Thanks to all of you. I really appreciate being able to pop in and ask a question and get help. Thank you everyone.
