If you're talking about the long wire that goes through both brake pad guide pins, I prefer that style. When I get the little dual snap pin wires or whatever they're called (we used bigger ones in the Army and on trailers so I know they have a name that I can't remember right now), they seem awfully difficult to install. Then they look like they'll be easy to come out on their own. I don't like them.

I can't seem to find the long wire for Aspire brake pins.

        Nice post Jim.

The Staight wire between the pins. VERY.....VERY....VERY...important. It keeps the pins from sliding.

The 'cloths pin' spring....I think the books refer to them as anti-rattle springs....not so important....I've done brake jobs where they ar missing or broken.

            You could, but why?
You already have holes in the pins which are on the inside of the outer half of the caliper.
Cotter pin them and you should be fine.
Besides which, me thinks there is very little room to drill a hole on the outside of the inboard side of the caliper.

What I'm wondering is can we get these pins in stainless steel.
Would help a great deal with the corrosion issue.
I don't think these pins are anything other than low grade steel at best!
            Any opinions on this?

The brake hardware kits are super cheap

I got mine for under 5 bucks, and it was for both front sides. While you're going to the trouble of doing brakes, why not do it right?

The hardware kit for the drum brakes was really cheap too, and not at all difficult to find.
