  • alternator swap

I know I saw a thread in the forums a long while ago where someone did an alternator swap from another car to their Festiva. The new alternator was around 90 amps and was a direct fit and plugged right in. What kind of car is this.

Please help I need this quickly.

Possibly a 323, i know it will bolt up to the B3 but i'm not sure about the plugging in

I thought it was from a Festiva, but was from an auto trannied ride. I'll keep an eye on this thread for the answer. Nice post!

My fest has a 50 amp alt. Do all of them have only a 50 amp alt? Even with AC and other options?

Found this thread it mentions the Protege alt working.

Just for your information... a few alternator choices. They have have the same mounting points... wiring couldn't tell ya.
          Capri - 70amps
          Escort GT/Protege - 65amps
          626/Probe/MX6 -80amps

I didn't see any others that would work but most Mazda's look like they're 65-70. The B2200 alternator might be a good choice if adding a second.. it's 95 amps.

And FB71 gives the following specs.
          carbed festy = 45A
          fi festy = 50A
          aspire = 60A

60 is plenty for a stock festy / aspire with no additional electrical loads (power windows, etc)

Hope this helps. I know it did me.

I got an alternator from a 626 that I wanna swap. I checked the wires and the 626 is missing the connection for the middle one wire (phone looking plug)? I wonder what that wire is for? I got the 89 curbed Festy. Anyone with info would be greatly appriciated

that single wire is a stator center tap to power the carb's electric choke. It outputs about 7 volts when the engine is running. You need to stick with the stock alt on a carbed car, or make a voltage regulator to run the choke.

Sorry, I just saw this thread, but it may have been me that you were talking about. I broke down in Greenville, Alabama a while ago, and my alternator had given up the ghost. I tried an alternator from a 92 mazda 323 and it bolted right up. I did need to elongate the slot where the alternator bolts to on the top end, to get the belt to have enough tension. You can also buy a shorter belt if you don't want to do that.

Oh and I have a brand new remanufactured 323 alternator if anyone is interested.

Mine has the v belt pully and I didn't have to do anything, so it was an easy add on.
