  • Removing tranny...bolts broke off..??

    I am at the part where I was taking out the sub-frame bolts in the front ,by radiator.Both broke off.No biggie,except,what do I do when it is time to put them back in ? Any ideas.Can I weld it back in place ? It seems the one was turning the nut, or, whatever is inside the frame.Kept spinning .????

    I gave up for the day.I got the crossmember off.Next is shifter linkage.Hope I don't break another bolt.

    I would grind the remaining bolt flat. Then I would in the center of the bolt...use a ball type grinding tool to grind a small dimple in the center of the bolt. This dimple is to start a drill bit...3/32 or 1/8. After the first frill bit penetrates the screw, drill again ingreasing the drill bit size by 1/32. Continue until only the original threads remain then pic the rest of the bolt out. Take your time. Stay in the center. Use good quality drill bits.

    It is my preference that if I can drill it out...I would do that than use an extractor. Be patient...both can be done in less than an hour. Go to fast and brak a drill bit or extractor and it's a hole different problem.

      dude, if you can weld, cut open the front crossmember and just replace the nuts;
