Tranny broke

It didn't exactly break. I just have 3 and 5 gear pop out. I was on the expressway setting up to watch a race between a Sentra SE-R on boost against an RX-7 ( like if I had a chance to see the end result ops: )Downshifted to 1st went to second then tried get into 3rd but no go :shock: . So afterwards on the way home 5th just popped out when I accelerated to pass a car :? .Has this ever happened to anybody? Luckily I still got the auto tranny from the tranny swap until I got enough money for the 5spd repair. Oh yeah SE-R won by 3 lengths from what I heard.

could one or more of several items...

shift forks, 3rd and 5th syncro blockers or speed gears, shift linkage bushings.

Bushings are the most likely. get under the car, and examine the rubber bushings in both rods that go from the shifter to the tranny, both ends. They should be tight with no visible movement when pushed, pulled or twisted by hand. Replace any suspect bushings. If that doesn't help, its time to pull and rebuild or replace the trans.

I was thinking the same thing. I was going to check the shift linkage in case it might have hit something.
