  • Stupid Steering Wheel!!!

This thing is making me extremely upset... so i still have the stock steering wheel in my 92 festiva, and it seems that every morning when i get into the car and put my hands on the wheel I get all of this black junk on my hands... i think it is the wheel actually falling apart.. is there anything that i can do to make this stop without replacing the whole wheel... any help would be nice... Thank you in advance..

    Matt

        leather

There is nothing like the feel of leather. Trash the plastic steering wheel and get a Momo on the Bay.
        You will not be disappointed.

honestly, I LIKE the plastic wheel. I don't really care for Momo or Grant, LeCarra, etc...

yeah, used to have that problem!
It's the homosapaien sapien grease/oil that sticks to the wheel when you or the previous owner handled the wheel.
Then dirt and dust sticks to the grease/oil and it builds up over time.
When it get hot and humid then cools off the "crud" starts to come off. But only the surface layers.
Can use solvents, but hot water and a good detergent will do wonders too!
And perhaps a brush of some sort, I find a tooth brush works well!
With all the equipment out would be a good time to detail the interior as well.

A cheap, plastic "wally world" steering wheel cover did the trick for me. In gray of course.

Try washing your hands before entering the vehicle, or wash the wheel from time to time, or cover it like some have done. I wash the wheel when it starts to bother me. How's the gear shift knob?

That's why i had to replace mine, it got worn down to the point where it had no texture left, and always got sticky and gross.. I just couldn't keep it clean. One trip to the Pick-a-part, and $12 later, got this first-gen RX-7 wheel. Fits great and took about 5 minutes to install.

If it has boobs or wheels, sooner or later you're going to have trouble with it.

                        big button

What's that big button to the left of your steering wheel do? Ejector seat, revolving license plate, machine guns or oil slick? It sure looks important.
