  • Temperature gauge

Hi just bought a 88 lx carb. model. 5 speed manual trani. The temp guage move up to the first line of the normal range but does not move any futher. Changed temp sending unit. Changed the cooling fan switch also. Fan operating normally. No over heating. Any suggestions. Thanks.

Do you know where the temp sensor is? Its in the same general area where you probably fixed the on/off temp sensor for the fan. See if its good or just replace it...if that doesnt work the gauge might be faulty (doubt it) or the wire has been cut or disconnected somewhere. If you still cant find it I will or someone can post a pic where the temp sensor is located exactly...cool?

            EFI has 3 temp sensors.
1st...ECU Input....located in the intake manifold at the No. 1 cylinder....Two wire connector
2nd...cooling fan cycle...front of engine in or near t'stat housing....Single wire connector
3rd...Temp gage...front of engine in or near t'stat housing...two wire connector

I think the 1st and 3rd are the same sending unit.

            temp gauge not reaching normal...could be a sending unit on the way out...most likely...stuck open/low setting/shot t'stat.

Are we sure that there is really an issue with it not moving past the first line? I have a Festy that I have driven for 7 years that never went above that line except for one time when I was stuck in a traffic jam on the freeway at last years Ohiostiva on the way to the park. I had fine heat in the winter and stayed at the same point all the time. Started off at the bottom till it warmed up so I knew it was working. Just a thought.

Hmm. I got no lines on my guage at all. It never goes higher than 1/4th the way up though and it gets in the low hundreds here.

When you changed the tstat. Did you use a two stage tstat. Perferablity from Ford or Mazada? If so than that is where the gauge reads. Both of my gauges read barely into the normal range.
