  • Festiva vs. Aspire 5-speed Transmission Ratios?

I can't find that old article listing the tranny ratios of the various mazda transmissions.

what is the festiva 5-speed and aspire 5-speed ratios? is the only diff the final drive or is the 5th gear on the assfire also shorter?

        hrmm..thanks guys

Now another question...and i doubt anyone would want to calculate for me.

Anyone got a program or equation to figure out shiftpoints for the aspire ratios VS the festiva ratios with a 175/60R13 tire & 6500rpm redline?

or 6000rpm redline, or 7000 lol (might as well do em all for everyone's sake)

Tryin to figure out how much benefit it'd be to do that tranny VS just gettin a G-series or F-series and swapping it in

Ok, using this as a guide,
          Ford Festiva
          1988-93
          B3 SOHC (1.3L 8v)
          1.......3.45
          2.......1.944
          3.......1.275
          4.......0.861
          5.......0.692
          R.......3.583
          F.......3.777

          Ford Aspire
          1994-97
          B3 SOHC (1.3L 8v)
          1.......3.45
          2.......1.944
          3.......1.275
          4.......0.861
          5.......0.692
          R.......3.583
          F.......4.06
would it be correct to say that the festiva turns less RPMs than the aspire at a speed, given that the overall tire wheel diameter is the same and both are in 5th?

          Say 70MPH

So convert 70 MPH to Inches Per Minute = 73920 in/min.
From here say that both the festy and aspire have 20" overall tire/wheel diameter. That would be 62.83" circumference, which can be seen as 62.83 in/rev. Then on both vehicles, the output CV of the tranny would be spinning 1176.508 RPM. Now, the aspire engine would be spinnig 3304 RPM and the festy engine would be spinning 3075 RPM.

Then i guess the next logical question would be are the final drive gears interchangeable, would one be able to put the festy FD gear into the aspire transmission and vise versa. Or would it be possible to replace the whole tranny going from festy to aspire?

          Thanks,

ignoring all that confusing stuff you just said...

yes...the assfire's gearing will make the engine rev higher than the festivas at a given RPM

but the aspires wheels are larger in diameter, which negates its shorter gearing.

BUT on a festiva w/its smaller diameter wheel/tire combo it'd benefit the car in acceleration for sure.

and yes the final drives are interchangeable......but i'm not sure if you have to swap the entire gearset as well since the ringgear on teh assfire is a different ratio, i'd think you'd hvae to swap the pinion gear on the 2ndary shaft

So now the obvious next question: Which transmission is stronger (i.e. will handle the most hp/tq)?

                ^^^???

All I have to add to this thread is my Corolla rev's at 3000 rpm at 120 km/hr, just like the Festiva.

Jim (the Yellow Festy owner in NJ w/B6T) has swapped them out and he currently runs the Festiva housing and Aspire bell.. He said it helps but isn't a huge gain since he is running Aspire brakes and hubs and wheel/tire combo that's about Aspire diameter... So with smaller diameter I'm sure it would be a noticeable gain. -Kyle
