  • AC problem on a 97 Escort

1997 Escort, 2 liter single cam motor. The AC runs very cold then last week it would get warm then cold then warm. It worked properly 90% of the time - like it was cold for 9 minutes then warm for a minute, repeating this over and over. Then Friday nothing. I checked Sunday and still no air. Today it works fine, ice cold all the time.

When it wasn't working I turned on the AC when at idle and the rpm's did kick up.

I'm leaning towards and electrical issue. Any ideas?

Possibly debris in the orifice tube. moves around and restricts refrigerant flow intermittently. Could also be a weak clutch field coil, or weak compressor. Next time it blows warm, physically check to see if the clutch is still engaged. If yes, then you have a refrigerant system issue.
