  • road trip tune up???

    Hey ya'll

im heading on a road trip out west in my 92 festiva!

ive checked the front and rear breaks and bearings, timing belt, air filter and fluids, most everything looks good. i was wondering if i was missing anything vital that should be looked at before a long trip fuel filter?

    Thanks everyone

So, where are you heading from/to? Are you moving out west or?

You say the timing belt looks good, but you (usually) can't tell by looking if it's still good or not.
I went from Pittsburgh to SoCal with a timing belt that was 30,000 miles past due on replacement; when I changed it after I got here, it had big chunks missing out of it! I think it was a miracle that I made it 2400 miles with a bad belt.
If It's due for a replacement, I would change it.

Just check everything that could possibly go wrong!
(tires, brakes, belts, hoses, battery, spare tire and jack, BALL JOINTS!!!!!!!, change the oil and filter, etc etc.)
and be sure to bring tools and supplies with you.
      and join AAA!
If it has boobs or wheels, sooner or later you're going to have trouble with it.

If the government has a safety check in your area I might ask how much it costs. Or you can copy the checklist off the Internet and go over it yourself. I'm pretty sure Ontario's is online. You can see if there's anything critical you might want to fix before leaving. I used to get repairs done at a dealership or national chain (Canadian Tire) to take advantage of the nation-wide warranty service, which came in handy when the Canadian Tire bearings went on a trip to Nova Soctia. Take a flashlight, a raincoat, some wire, and a roll of duct tape.
