  • Intermittent starter problem

Around every 5-10th time we try to start the car, you hear a click and the starter doesn't turn, try again and it works. The battery seems to be good. The starter works well when it works.

Where's the first places to look for the problem.

    Starter solenoid is my guess.
Could just be corrosion or burnt contacts.

^^^or a weak coil solenoid coil. Or maybe a bad relay.

After it does not start do you just turn the kkey again and it starts?

very likely a solenoid.... it clicks when it engages. clean the contacts as mentioned... if it dies and will not start... try tapping the solenoid with a hammer or something hard.

I've still got this problem. Had starter replaced twice, on the second one now. It starts 95% of the time, the other 5% you have to rock the key back and forth until it finally decides to spin the starter. Does that mean the problem is in the ignition?
