Front Wheel Removal

How in the heck do the front wheels come off of a 1988 Festiva? Does the bearing nut have to come off? If not do I just beat the heck out of it till it comes off? If so, what sort of act of god is required to get that center nut off. I just threw my back out trying to get it loose. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the wheel lugs are the only thing holding the wheels on. The center nut is holding the hub to the axle.

If the wheel is stuck on with the lugs all out then just give it a good whack(on the rubber) with a sledge or something. The hub can get corroded and stick.

thanx, I finally got it off with the BFH, just very corroded.
