  • My compression test results

The car was warmed to full operating temperature, then I changed the oil. 2 hours later, the car was warmed again to full operating temperature, then left to cool for an hour. I hauled out the plugs and screwed in my compression tester. The results:

    Number 1: 180
    Number 2: 177
    Number 3: 170
    Number 4: 175

How do those numbers sound? We had a bit of difficulty getting a number off of number 3, the needle rose slower than on the other 3 cylinders. There's an awful lot of dirt and grime around the spark plug holes so maybe it wasn't seated all the way?

Those number look good. The big thing to look for when doing a compression test is to make sure there is not more than a 10% drop between the highest compression cylinder and the lowest. In your case you had a drop of 5.88% which means your in good shape.

If you blocked the TB open and got accurate numbers those are very good.

I don't know about blocking it open, but I did hold the pedal to the floor while I was cranking it over. Is that the same? What is factory specs for compression on the B3?

          Yeah, that's blocking it open.

I'm not sure of the factory specs. But the important thing like he said is within 10% of eachother.
