  • Dome light assembly

My 1993 Festiva L has a bad dome light (no longer working.) Where does one go to get a replacement? Is this an item still available at the Ford dealerships or am I forced to hunt at the local junk yards and hope for the best?

if its not working check the ground wires and the buttons on the doors that pop out when the door opens, thses get rusty and wont make good contact. if this is the problem a new light wont do you any good, also check the bulb if you havnt done so,could be blown.or fuse. the only way it could be the light itself is if the plastic has dry rotted and the connections on inside are broke ect..

Welcome to the site. JY is your best bet....but you can get an upgraded dome light out of an escort. Much easier to find then a Festy in the JY.
Take a moment and list your location in your profile....helps a bunch when repair questions and such come up....may have someone close that can lend a hand...or parts close by.

The assembly itself is bad - the switch contact points/pieces have come apart. The only way to fix it is to replace it.

Two common failures with dome lights....and I experienced them both:
              1) the white plastic hosing is fualty...I think the were molded out of corn starch and water. They are brittle and crack thus throwing the switch mechanism out of wack. You can take it out and examine it. It's pretty straight forward.
              2) The internals of the door switch get cruded up. The can easil be disassembled, cleaned and be put back together.

Are you suure the lamp is just not burned out or dislodged?

              Welcometo the site!!!!!!!!

My dome light had loose rivet connections on the conductors. I carefully tapped the rivets to tighten then up and it worked again. No more flakey behavor after that!
