    They can with PWM. not varying voltage. A festiva dimmer switch will not dim a LED.

      The circuit diagram above shows a transistor at the dimmer. Different from the 90 that has NO transistor on the schematic. In the circuit above, the transistor controls the lamp current while the variable resistor controls the transistor. Disregard the transistor. It's still a dimmer control and works much the same way.

      The lamp with a lead directly to ground is the Radio dial. It is not affected by the dimmer.

      Here's a hand drawn circuit. Connect your gauge lamps to the R/GR and R/W. Just try one lamp to see if and how it works. Unless something else is screwy it should go from bright to dim as your rotate the control.
