  • 2 dumb questions...

car is 1991 festiva B3 engine stock everything. i am in connecticut.

    1) when i took off the exhaust manifold from my son's festiva i found 5 gaskets - one gasket for each exhaust port and one long gasket that handled all 4 exhaust ports.
question- what is the correct configuration? 1 long gasket, 4 individual gaskets, or 5 total gaskets?

    2) my son's B3 block is leaking coolant to the outside world near and at the freeze plugs in front - actually NEAR the freeze plugs and IN the freeze plugs - bottom line is that I need a new short block. the old block has rusted so badly that coolant is leaking out.
question- is an engine block from an Aspire (say a 1996 or so?) interchangeable with a 1991 festiva engine block?

i do believe they engine blocks are interchangeable the aspire has the same engine as the festiva and you might want to put your location up in case there is someone near you who can help...

fully impimented OBD2....96-97 has a crank position sensor...but i think the block itself should be alright to use.

There sshould be a multi-layer metal gassket for the exhaust manifold...but the last time i checked not each individual port...

For what ever it's worth, the manual shows one metal gasket.

Aspires come with a roller valve train. I'd use the Aspire head too.

I do believe you will run into a drive belt issue since the aspire has serpentine belts and the festiva has V-belts and the differences in crankshaft pulleys

We installed a used Aspire B3 in a 90 Festy with a swap of the manifolds and pulley system. This included reusing the Dealer installed A/C system that was on the Festy, with no problems at all. It was a straight swap with no issues that went easier than installing a crate engine from FMS.

I'm a little slow with the reply, sorry.

The old exhaust gasket had burned and rusted to the point where it fell apart. It's supposed to be one piece.

Your coolant leaks are from rusted freeze plugs. Just replace the plugs. The block is aluminum; it won't rust.

                  ^ the block is aluminum?!
who let this guy on the board? lol... its a cast block. Go stick a magnet on it.

aspire B3 should swap as long as you use the mani's and pulleys from the festiva, just like m715 said.

even using an OBDII motor will work you just wont plug a harness into the crank position sensor.
