Who has them? I want factory bushings to get rid of all this slop in my shifter. I only want the real deal parts.

Was it just a matter of four nylon bushings or something? Does the shifter feel nice now?

yeah, couple of bushings and a bolt. i only did the back ones, but it only took me like 15 or 20 minutes to do, and i had no idea what i was doing. its pretty self explanatory once you see it. the guy who owned the car before me did the front ones.
oh yeah and it feels great, way better than not even being able to find the pattern! it was pretty tight at first but it loosened up eventually.

They are not bad at all to change. Hardest part is any rust you encounter IMO.

When I put the Hurst short throw shifters for the civic in both of my festivas, I replaced the brittle degraded plastic bushings in the linkages for new neoprene washers. Just take your old plastic bushings and bolts with you to your local ace hardware, and pick up 6 or 8 neoprene washers. After that slide them inbetween the linkages as you slide the bolt through them. Try to get two per side of the bolt so there is absolutely no play. I even had to lightly tap one of the washers up into place because it was so tight. After you get both ends bolted back together, take your car for a test drive and enjoy the new car shifter feeling.

That might be a trans/clutch problem. Instead of getting new bushings I just found a friend to give me a new shifter...lol, but I know it is just a simple bolt under the shifter. In order to get to it you'll need to unscrew the four bolts on the inside of the car that hold the shifter in place and drop out the shifter from the bottom. you will need to unscrew a few bolts that attach to the transmission or the bolts that attach to the bottom of the shifter I undid the bolts that attach to the transmission and dropped out the whole shifter linkages because the bolts there were easier to remove. In order to remove the shifter column out from under the car you will need to move the exhaust over by undoing one of the rubber bands that holds it in place, then push it aside and you should be able to remove your shifter column(this may take some wiggling from underneath). It was easy enough to do and it's almost self explanatory. If you are tightening a lose shifter, all you need to do is tighten one bolt at the bottom of the shifter column that has the two bushings around the middle of it. (You may not have them if they creaked and fell off). CAUTION: don't push out your shifter column by the shifter knob, it will pop out of the column and it's a pain to put back in, and if it is rusted it might break.
Hopefully this helps, if you need further advise you can pm me.

                        Hey Ogre,

If the shifter is loose on the topside, it is a sign of bad bushings in the linkages. The clutch or the transmission wouldn't have anything to do with the excess play in the shifter. I'd put money down that it's just the plastic bushings that have deteriorated to the point of no return.
