  • no check engine light? please help!

so i got stuck in the rain with my 93 festiva L. with my hood off yesterday and about 20 minutes into driving my car turned off. with the key still on every light on the cluster was on except the check engine light. i got it into a parking lot and when i turned the key it wanted to start but still no engine light no matter were the key is? ive never had this problem with no engine light at all. if anyone has had this problem or no's what i should check to dianose this problem please help me. i cant see any burnt fuses or relays. im guessing the ecu isnt getting power but i dont no wat fuses or relays would burn up befor the ecu......

      have you checked the bulb?

If your question is "why won't the engine start", remove the distributor cap and wipe it out with a dry rag and then wipe the coil wire and around the base of the cap and coil where the wire seats in them.

The engine will start/run with no engine light.

I agree - the wires and cap are wet and this is probably the problem. Dry them off and see if it runs.

            ^^ yep squared

And change out the CE bulb. Most likely the problems are unrelated.

i checked the bulb and its good, nothing anywere is wet. everything on the car works except the ecu im guessing cause of the no light and no spark or fuel.... ive went threw the wiring and it all looks ok.. so my question is, wat link is there to the ecu? just the main relay? and were r they? i cant find a good diagram... i think theres one under tha dash obove the hood popper and one on the drivers side wheel well??

[QUOTE=deathtrap im guessing cause of the no light and no spark or fuel....

You said in your first post it would try to start when you cranked it. It won't start with no spark or fuel. How are you determining there is no spark or fuel??????????

The 1990 shop manual, Section 33, diagnosing and testing, has a symptom of "Warning system [check engine light in our terms] will not indicate with ignition ON and engine OFF."
Unfortunately the schematics and trouble shooting steps are in the Festiva EVTM manual Section 55. I don't have that manual but someone who does, may be able to help. The 93 may or may not be the same.

ok so i finally figured out tha problem.. it was tha main relay located in tha front drivers side enginebay above wheel well, tha damn thing got wet and fried up. it controls power to tha fuel pump and ecu which is why there was no spark or fuel or engine light.. thanks for everyones help and advice.
