Has anyone experienced the nut that holds the tire onto the cv shaft to come undone. I was driving my fiestiva and first noticed the brakes not working correctly, then i started to smell something burning and luckily i reached my distination and smoke started coming up from passenger side front wheel and i looked under the car and saw that the spindle was almost out of tire and when i took dust cover off, the nut fell out. This is the first time i have ever experience this on any car. I may have to double nut it or drill hole in axle to put a cotter pin in for my own feeling of be safe.

It's a crush nut.
You did force the edge of the nut into the channel on the axle with a rounded cold chisel after torquing it?
If not consider yourself lucky and read the Haynes or Ford manual for axle nut installation.
BTW, I removed your second posting of this in the discussion section.

You can buy new ones from any Mc parts for $2.99, last time I checked.
But, these are made from a harder alloy and do not "crush" as easily or as nicely as the OEM ones.
Get a few and practice, cheaper than losing a wheel in a turn!'93 Blue 5spd 230K(down for clutch and overall maintanence)

There is nothing quite like the feeling of driving down the highway, and seeing your wheel shoot off your car on a diagonal path.
I guess, the only thing that beats it, is when you slow down enough so that your front axle slams onto the ground and the sparks go flying off your spindle.
That is why the thread goes in a different direction on both axles. But, please make sure you stake the nut.

$8.00 man those went up fast!
Uh, one small note; the festiva has spindles on the rear axle and the front has hubs.'93 Blue 5spd 230K(down for clutch and overall maintanence)
