Blue smoke, should be easy diagnosis

I just want to confirm something. I get blue smoking accelerating after going downhill. It's not thick and about the consistency of cigarette smoke (very whispy). I had just replaced my speedo cable and suspect I overfilled the tranny fluid. Possible?

ehhhh....
put any additives in the gas or oil recently?
overfilled the engine oil? i've never pulled the tranny of of any car, but i don't see how the fluid gets from there to the cylinders. thought the tranny was sealed, sort of isolated.

not sure how to ask this part, but...does the smoke last, or does it go away right away. because if it lasts, it could be water vapor. but i've never heard of blue water vapor.....

i always thought "blue smoke" was left to diesel engines.

No additives. Did have the oil changed at Jiffy Lube. I'll check the dippy this afternoon.

It goes away within a few seconds, almost like being tipped downhill sloshes something in and then it burns right out when the vehicle's level or uphill. I tried testing it on different hills as I was driving. One hill in particular, I waited 10 to 20 seconds before accelerating and there was no smoke.

Oh, I do know I need to change the VC gasket. Oil on the engine makes that pretty clear.

could be the seals letting the oil into the cylinder. When you are going down the hill are you letting it coast down the hill or are you using the accelerator at all?

Yeah, agree with Genevadirt, betting on valve stem seals!
Bet if your going down a flat road and take your foot off the gas for a while then re-accelerate to speed you'll see the same thing!

Since I put the 5 speed in I have gone from mid 30's to low to mid 40's. My last tank was 45.xx. It only says 40.x on the ecomodder thing because I included fuel logs from before the 5 speed. There are several low to mid 30's on the log, so the averages are lower than what I get now. My last tank was with quite a few stretches of coasting with the engine off and some pulse and glide.

I still need to work on the ignition since it seems to miss/bog/hesitate under heavy load. lol. climbing hills at interstate speeds stinks...and really I can't even keep those speeds on any grade above 1%. My 89 has no back seat or anything and I weigh 185. lol.

oh ya, it has 314,xxx miles on it now. lol.
