Right now its looking like I jumped the gun. I jacked up the car, put it in first and the front turned like it was nothing. I pulled out the driver cv axle and the tranny end teeth were chewed up a bit and the retainer ring fell out.

I'll have to find me a good cv axle and pop it back in there and see how she does. Looks like I've got two cars to have fun with now.

Oh yeah, is there anything I should do before putting in the new cv axle? To flush out any metal debris or anything that might be crudded up in there?

You might want to install a new input shaft seal. The are $5.94 at Advance http://tinyurl.com/6m22mr
Let us know how it turns out.

Whats the difference between the input and output shaft seals? I'm seeing both in other posts and the image on the Advance web page doesn't tell me where it's going. Thanks for all your help.

Now I'm leaning back to the tranny being shot. I got the new cv axle to install, climbed under the car tonight and noticed this sitting under it.

So the small part at the end of the cv axle, right after the retainer ring, broke off the end. But the small pieces seem to be teeth from a gear from the tranny. I don't think I should put the new cv axle in if there's a gear shredded in there since I can get a refund for it. Any suggestions on what I should do?

i can see the sheer stress marks, that's the result of the outer most tip of the CV axle trying to hold the torque from the trans. you can see the results yourself.

if the new CV went back in properly, i don't see any reason not to drive it (after you flush the trans).

Even with some teeth from what I'm assuming is first gear out. I'm assuming that the small bits of teeth shown in the picture are parts of a gear (first since thats what I was in when it happened). Would it function enough with the missing teeth, or would that compromise the entire gears integrity?

I just don't want to stick a good cv axle in there just to get it chewed up and spit out.

WHOA! That there looks like yer problem!

So I pulled the plug and flushed her out. Put the plug back in and flushed it again expecting fluid to pour from the open cv axle hole, but no. Got to looking for something else and saw this weird shaped gape on the side. Problem/culprit found. Now a long drawn out tranny replacement, or another Festy. We shall see. Thanks for all ya'lls help.
