I had the tie rod end drop out of an old car when I was a student.
You might consider swapping in the Aspire front end if you plan to keep the car.
It makes replacing rotors and bearings easier.

+ 1, or whatever on not playing around replacing the control arms/tie rod ends/ball joints. pu241, don't know if it was your car, but someone on here posted pics of the aftermath of ball joint failure, and it was not pretty. Struts/shocks can likely wait, if they are bad the worst they will do is mess with alignment, and cause the ride to be a bit rough, but if those other parts go bad while driving, you may be looking for fenders by the time you are done. Good Luck.

        Batstiva, wasn't me!
But, I remember reading way back in the Yahoo group days, of one person doing 15-20 MPH and the ball-joint failed and it pulled the wheel/hub under the car doing about 500 to $800 worth of damage, after all the body work and welding to get everything back to where it belonges.
I also distinctly remember reading about an idiot who after the ball joint popped out, just put it back in and went about his merry way.
Oddly enough, I don't recall him posting much if ,anything, after that!

Listen to these guys. they know what they are talking about. I had the bolt on my ball joint break and cv axle came out too. Lucky i was in my Drs parking lot and not on highway. As light as festivas are, it wouldnt take much. Your life aint worth it. Mine is down strictly on account of my bearings are a little loose. I have already rebuilt my front end. Hospital bill would be more than rebuilding car.
