  • A/C Compressor On or Off at WOT?

I recently purchased a 97 Aspire (manual tranny) and I'm slowly getting it to be reliable (cap, rotor, plugs, wires, O2 sensor, SeaFoam, etc.) for my 110 mile per day commute.

But I've noticed one thing that has me confused. At WOT, the A/C compressor does not seem to turn off. All the other Fords I've owned in the past have had the WOT A/C cutoff but this Aspire does not. Is that normal or do I need to find out what is keeping the A/C on at WOT.

I'm also not getting the fuel economy like I think I should. I’m getting 33.5 mpg driving 70 mph 80% highway/20% city, and half the time with the A/C on (in the afternoon) and half the time with the A/C off (in the morning). I was really expecting about 36 mpg or better.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :thumbright:

check the switch on the accel pedal, thats the WOT command. and your mileage sounds about right, thats what my 94 (bought new) used to get.
