  • TPS wiring haynes manual error?

    Hello all.

To those who have the haynes manual. On page 4-13 for the TPS. There is a picture of the TPS plugs and what each prong is

Top to bottom: Reg, Sig, GND.

But in the back of the book in the wiring diagram it shows the ground as being the black wire which is the center wire on the plug....HELP! I have the square plug if that makes any difference.

According to my 1990 engine/emissions diagnosis shop manual the middle wire is black which is the ground. The yellow /black is idle and the yellow is WOT. Hope this helps.

The connector going to the coil has two wires a black one and a yellow one. In this instance the black is the positive. So they don't always make black the ground on our cars.

Thank you for telling me that because I needed to know about the coil plug as well.

Good to know. One way to check polarity is to set the volt meter to DC and try the contacts both ways. Try it across the battery terminals. One way gives a reading, the other way doesn't.
