  • speedometer question

    hiya...
If one was to remove the speedometer cable, would it effect the performance of a 96 aspire?
I see in the manual there is a VSS in there somewhere (vehicle speed sensor) and i don't know how removing the speedometer cable from the cluster will effect how it runs.
what is the VSS and what role does it play ?

    no problem

you can run without speed sensor but the car can stall sometimes.
the vss is for the idle correction when decelerating.
be award from remove your speedometer because some states have penalty if you modify your odometer...less mileage!!!

Ive had the cable off for a week, i see no impact in MPG or performance. I did clear the OBD2 codes and the check engine light came back on (it has a hair up its butt over the EGR sensors, or it seems to think it does) I have to check and see if it added a VSS code also this round.
