I've never used one before. Is it pretty easy?

Yes, pretty easy, it isn't a sophisticated device.
Just a mechanical means of applying a small force in a very directed manner.
As opposed to a lot of force that could damage a part or yourself for that matter.
You have clearly already yanked, pulled, and everything else you could think of.
When you get to use the slide hammer you will be amazed at how little force you will use to pop that axle out.
The issue will be finding a way to mate the slid hammer to the axle if they don't have a full kit complete with adapters.
In which case putting together the device Wrestler3025 was referring to might actually be easier and faster!
Give Wrestler3025 sometime to find that post, I couldn't find it, but will try again when I'm not at work and being paid to do something else!:p

I looked for it, but couldnt find it. I would go with the Autozone solution as it stands.

it's a deposit. You get that back when you return the slide hammer.

I give up, I don't wanna break it. I'll put it back together and take it to the shop to get the CV axle replaced I guess...as soon as I get the control arms and stuff to drive it, ha
