    Double check the timing. Mark the dist to the head then swing the dist to the extreme CW position then CCW position. Also disconnect and reconnect the battery.

        CW = ClockWise
        CCW = Counter ClockWise

          previous posts would suggest that the timing is good (when it runs, it runs well).

            ok so i replaced the coil with one i got from the yard and took it for a run and it was running fine but cut out quick twice but kept running good never fully died and finally when i thought she was cured she died so im at a loss now on what is the problem... but i think i forgot to mention that the last time i took it to the shop they said that it was'nt charging very well or some thing and i just put a new alt. in a few months prior and had'nt even drove it really and i havent had any problems with that but this time after letting it sit for a week i went to start it and the battery was dead and when it died the battery went weak very quick but i ve never had this kind of problem with any other vehicle before when the alternator went bad as long as the battery was charged good the vehicle would run but when bat dead no run and when the alt went last in this car i made about a 1 1/2 round trip in the dark with the headlights on and just made it home with almost no headlights by the time i got home cause the bat was so low so im just trying to say i dont think that would be the problem but if anyone differs or has a good explanation for the cause of my troubles please help me out Thanks

              bad batt can kill an alt, and visa versa...

                yeah but there both pretty much brand new and i dont see how either one would cause the problem im haveing... And preveous times the car has died with this problem the battery has stayed STRONG even after trying to start it for like ten minutes

                    so your sayin that the starter would cause it to just up an die and not want to fire? i cant see that being the problem... please explain

                      Hey 2-4,

                      You need to back up, bro. Pull that alt and battery, take them to a parts store and have them checked FIRST. Always start in the beginning!

                      Your car will run with a good alt. Turning headlights on requires the battery. Either your battery is not accepting a charge or your alternater is not producing enough charge.

                      If you have a screwed up charging system, how can you expect the electonics of the ignition system to work. Nobody is going to be able to solve anything until we have a good foundation to start with.

                      Do that next and report back.

                        not saying starter will cause a no fire, saying that a dieing starter can act like a bad battery.

                          you said your coil came from a salvage yard. im thinking the one you got isnt very good either, since this is similiar to the behavior of my first festiva, i bought a new coil and the problems went away.
                          is not sposed ta do that...

                            quick question if the voltage regulator is bad would that drain the battery and possibly cause the engine to just cut out and not re-fire? because i put a new battery in it and after it sits for awhile it just gets drained like the other one did... im not currently driving the vehichle its just sitting for the winter

                              I am no mechanic, but my roommates' truck was doing the same thing for the last 3-4 weeks..
                              and, so we changed the fuel filter, did the diagnostic.. and eventually changed the ignition module day before yesterday.. and its hasn't stopped since.

                              Once again, i am not a mechanic... just my 2 cents..hopefully it helps
