lack of heat

My sons 1993 festiva has no heat. we have changed the thermosat(with a origanal type 195 f) I have noticed that we have a hot hose on one side of the heater core. The other is staying cool(we flushed the core it runs clear),this is the hose that goes into a metaltube that goes around the motor.any ideas? Any help would be taken to heart .:

first off....welcome to the site. Is there no heat at all or are you trying from the vents? The vents will never blow heat....it will only come from the floor and defrost. You may want to consider looking at the heater core again...I have read it is a big job but a few on here have had issues with the core itself being plugged on the outside of it with the likes of mouse nest material and such. I am sure you will get some other suggestions...but I myself have not had to pull the core.

always very possible that the tube that runs under your exhaust manifold to the water pump/lower radiator hose is plugged (it also has a bypass hose running off the rear cylinder head to the metal tube)

try flushing through the tube and the lower radiator hose

additional info we changed the radiator,we had heat till we changed it. we did add a can of bars leak for aluminum engines,used radiator looked like it could have some damage.
As for flushing what is the best way to flush the bypass tube

I noticed on mine, for whatever reason, the vent rod had bent over the years. Like Dirt says, it only works on floor and defrost. When I slide the switch over at the panel, the rod behind the console binds and the door inside the vent tube doesn't operate fully. If you look just behind the console below the dash on the driver's side, you'll see it move left to right when you slide the control. When you see it move all the way to the left, give it a little tug to see if it moves any further, and if you notice any heat.

pull the heater hose(to metal tube) off of heater core and stick flushing hose in it and pull lower radiator hose off
