  • Stalls at a standstill

I went for a drive into town today in my new '89L Auto, with the oddball EFI.

It ran fine the entire day, but as I was getting ready to head back to campus some strange things happened.

I was sitting at a traffic light, and it was getting dark. So I decided to switch my lights on. The car hiccuped, died for a moment, and then fired back up. It also reset the radio station to factory default, and the headlights blinked. It seemed like someone cut the electricity off for a moment. After that happened I drove back with no other problems.

When I got back, I found a spot and put the car into reverse. The car stalled out, but had no problems firing up again when I cranked it.

I'm guessing electrical, but the alternator seems fine. The battery is kind of old but the car starts up with no problems. It also has dirty terminals (I'm cleaning them tomorrow) but I don't think that would cause my problems. Also the middle fusible link blew some time ago and was replaced by a piece of wire, so I plan to fix that as well.

I decided to take the car for a spin around the block and see if it happened again. It ran fine, but stalled out when I came to a complete stop at a stop sign. The radio reset itself again this and the other times as well.

I have no idea what is causing this, or why it only happens when I am at a standstill.

    Any thoughts?

Make sure you don't have any loose ground wires.

check that link you replaced. may have used the wrong size wire
and check the battery cables...the slightest bit loose and they will act up

I cleaned up the grounds and the battery terminals today. So far my problem hasn't reappeared yet, even after recreating the scenarios where I had the issues.
