  • quick question for those with Capris

A buddy at my night job (papa johns pizza delivery) drives an N/A '91 Mercury Capri, and his fuel pump went out. I know the pump itself is the same as a festy pump (i'm selling him my fairly new pump from the silver car... auto zone wants $140 for a new one :!. I know a few members own/have owned capris, and my question is, has anyone ever changed a fuel pump on one of these? Do you have to drop the tank, or is there an access somewhere inside the car or trunk to get at it, like the festiva has underneath the rear seat? We're probably going to be changing it on the side of the road tomorrow so he can work tomorrow night, so any info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!
    No festiva for me ATM...

According to my Ford CD's there is an access panel under rear seat.

ok thats good news... I wasn't looking forward to jacking it up and dropping the tank on the side of the road lol... wait a minute, capris don't have a rear seat, do they?... maybe its just in that little compartment behind the front seats. I'll find out today for sure.

capris have "rear seats", they're just useless and really small, hardly noticeable.

That's where they should have put the engine.

my capri came with no backseat so it was very easy to get to the pump but it should be a very easy repair. as long as you're careful not to strip the tiny screws holding it in the tank
