  • Front Strut Mounts

Should I be ok using the strut mounts that are already on the car? I really just want to get this thing back on the road and every penny i save takes time off of it sitting in the garage.

As long as they look okay you should be fine, but if they are cracked or damaged I wouldn't

If they fall apart into pieces, do not use them. You would be risking not only your life but others who are on the road next to you. The rubber can have a couple small cracks and still be reused though it is not advised. If there is any doubt, you should replace them. I know the front mounts cost more than the struts, so alot of people do like to reuse them. I have never seen one come apart and would love to hear a story or two about them failing.

We've had 2 come apart. Both times the rubber separated from the outer steel housing. It acts like your strut is completely shot and you are only riding on a spring. Viewed from the outside of the car, the wheel looks like a basketball being bounced with your hand only a few inches higher than the ball when it's touching the floor.
        You gonna race that thing?

Well crap, I guess I'll just replace them. I looked up under it and I can see that the rubber is cracked. I also jacked it up and turned the wheel back and forth and the drivers side one squeaks. Where's the cheapest place to get these things?

^^Try rockauto.com, good prices and if you google "rock auto discount code" you can find a code for getting even more off!

Rockauto has good prices, but the shipping costs are killing it!

Edit: Ha, rockauto still $35 cheaper than advance
