My Festiva runs fine, but whenever I give it gas it spits water out the tailpipe (I'm pretty sure it's water, it's clear and has no odor) Could it be from the car not being ran in a long time? Because the car had been sitting since 2004 before I bought it. And I've replaced the air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, oil filter, and changed the oil to get it running good again. I just wanted to know what you guys think it could be, and if it'll go away

could be just condensation in the pipe, does it stop after you run it awhile?89 L, hopefully returning from the dead soon with a little more power... :twisted:

hmm... i've seen cars going down the road with this problem, maybe a head gasket? i dont know what that looks like, but it would seem to me that it would spit antifreeze out, not water... does it run good?89 L, hopefully returning from the dead soon with a little more power... :twisted:

catalytic converter; It's job is to crack apart the molecules of the exhaust gases, and recombine them into less benign compunds. HC, CO, NOx, and O2 get recombined into CO2, N and H2O. A properly working converter will generate a significant amount of water. It should be as you stated; clear and odorless. If it has a sweet odor to it. it's a coolant leak inside the engine.Jim DeAngelis

only if the converter goes bad. water in the exhaust is a good sign. yes, it will rot the exhaust eventually, which is why auto manufacturers went to stainless exhaust in the early 90's.Jim DeAngelis

The water coming out the tailpipe is a normal event of the combustion process of gasoline and oxygen. Roughly, for every gallon of gasoline you burn, you will get a gallon of water out the exhaust. Converter or no.
If you take the car out and drive it on the highway, I think you'll cease to see the drip you're talking about unless the engine/exhaust is still cold and not warmed up.

It seems to be a normal thing. Alot of Mustangs (GT's 94-up, Fox Body LX 5.0's, and with pipes coming straight out the back) do it a lot. If you're ever behind one at a light or something and watch it take off, water will come out of the pipes. Little random crap my mind always notices, ha....On the other hand, my Mustang leaves wet spots on the ground, but its gas....I have the exhaust dumped and no cats....and the motor is built with no emissions crap. Better rich than lean in that car, ha
