  • Help me check my parts list!

Well, I did part of the front suspension (control arms, tie rod ends, swaybar bushings). Now I need to do the rest of the front and the back. Here's my list:

    Front Struts: Monroe Sensa-Trac (2)

    Rear Struts: Monroe Sensa-Trac (2)

Strut Bellow: Front (2), Rear (2)

Strut Mount: Front (2), Rear (2)

Rear Wheel Bearings: Front (Inner, Outer), Rear (Inner, Outer)

Am I forgetting anything? I already have the CV axle I need to replace (and the seals for it). I just want to make sure I've got everything before I order! Thanks!

Oh, and the new tires are sitting in the garage =)

Also, any special tools needed besides a spring compressor? How hard is it to do the rear bearings?

Pretty easy to do rear bearings(1 side will be reverse threaded I believe on the Festiva, not on Aspire), front are rough on the Festiva. I used a slide hammer and you need a press and bearing seperator too.
Also you can get that spring helper kit from Autozone and cut the spring and place inside the rear OEM spring(really works well). I did it, but depending on how much you cut it could look really jacked up(mine is) but it is really stable, can't say for front, ain't done that yet, maybe you will?
I also have the Aspire swap though.

I'm hoping my springs are ok....I guess I'll know when I take them off, ha. I looked up under it and noticed some of the paint/protective covering was peeling off the springs. But this car has been in GA all its life so I'm not worried about rust. I just hope none are broken. I'll probably just sand blast them and repaint them.

Not doing the front, but thanks for reminding me. I'll add the rear seals to the list!

So I need inner and outer for both rear wheels right?

They are just some blue springs from autozone, like 25 bucks. just cut em and mount them in. Fairly easy.

They just help with worn saggy springs?

If your are careful you can pop that seal out without damaging it and reuse it!
However, if your luck is anything like mine, I can almost guarantee if you don't have a replacement available your going to nick/cut/crush that seal and will need a new one!

Yea, I just got new seals. I know my luck, ha. Car is still sitting in the garage. I'm waiting on money for parts. For all the parts I need plus shipping I need $350. Sucks cuz I only paid $500 for the whole car, ha. Anybody looking to buy anything in particular car related or not? Ha, I need to sell some stuff to fix this thing! I'm tired of putting gas in the Exploder!

No such thing as a rear strut mount on a Festiva!
everything you need will be in the box the strut came in.

So the rubber pieces at the top on the rear will come with the new strut/shock? If so, sweet!

So are the struts and strut mounts different on an 88 LX and say like a 91-93? I just noticed on Rockauto that all the parts for an 88 are more than a 91-93. Is there something different?
