  • alt. wire (carbed festy)

ok 89 L, 4 spd. we took the intake manifold off with the cylinder head (burnt valve) and there was a wire running from the alternator to the underside of the intake manifold. this wire is broken at the alternator somehow. i think this is the manifold heater wire. my question is when is this wire hot? can i run another wire from somewhere else to it to make it work right? thanks!

It goes to the choke on the carb. You have to wire it back to the alternator NOT the battery because it only has like 7 volts going to the choke. 12 volts would not work.

i think it was broken before we pulled it off. the wire on the alt. is loose and wiggles around alot, and there doesnt seem to be any way to unplug it.

It can be unplugged, but it's one that you kind of have to squeeze and pull, and it's a little hard to see down in there. Mine wiggled around like it was loose, but clearly was not, as it took a bit of work to get it loose.
