OK I am stumped. I started with a 90 L with auto. Ran great actually got 90+ very easily.
Then I rebuilt entire car. This is what I did under the hood:
new rings and bearings (bottom and rod)
new air and fuel filter
new pcv
new cap, button, and wires
new plugs NGK
remanufactured head (with roller lifters)
5 speed with the same computer as the auto (3 plug)
new exhaust from header back universal cat
2 tanks of Lucas fuel system cleaner
new clutch
New rims and tires 195/45-15 (Almost exact to original size)
Now there is no power. It seems to be running lean. Has a hesitation when throttle is stabbed. It surges lightly when at steady throttle (just enough to feel it) It idles high (2k) when cold then comes down after a minute or so. Idles great (850-900rpm) when warm.
Here is the scenario. The car sat with only 1 gallon or so of fuel in it for a year or more. O2 sensor is original (83K) fuel pump is original and timing is smack dab in the middle of the gap. I tried advancing and retarding. If anything I did notice advancing (turning distributer clockwise) made it worse so it seemed, although very little.
What I tried:
advancing and retarding timing
different MAF box (Correct term???) the computer thingy above the air filter
Possibilities:
O2 sensor, have a Bosch $17 from Autozone haven't tried it yet
fuel pump from sitting close to dry for so long
cam off time with crank (belt off by one tooth or something)
Ground wire from head to chassis bad or too small (used the stock wire and location but possible dirty)
computer difference I have both out of cars 90 auto and 93 Manual. Auto one currently installed (possibly programmed different for different trannies, I am not sure on this one)
can a coil go bad from sitting unused?
I haven't ran enough fuel through it to see mileage (150 miles or so)
remember engine is newly rebuilt
please help. It is taking the fun out of driving it.
