  • It's a Wonderful Day in the Neighborhood...

My basement bathroom, hall and storage room flooded with sewage last night, the plumber is here and my bill is climbing while he tries to find the problem and Obama wants what little money I have left. So with all that in mind I thought I would work on HOT ROD while I waited to get the reeming...I mean plumbing bill. I am trying to remove the passenger side front wheel to get a better look at the top/bottom seals to diagnose my oil leak. My wheel, however, has frozen bolts/lugs. I've pried, jumped on and manhandled the lug wrench to no avail. I know this has happened to someone else. Any ideas on breaking these wheel bolts loose?

Use a pipe to extend your lugwrench for more leverage.

I had that problem on all 4 of mine. It took me a week. Sprayed PB blaster on each one twice a day (morning and evening). Each evening I would take the breaker bar with the socket on it and the giant handle from my jack and work them a little bit (not too hard, don't want to break off). Slowly but surely they finally came loose!

I have a really heavy duty impact and had to go to my friends shop where he has 160 psi air pressure to get the lugs loose on my alloy wheels. Use some anti seize on them when you get them off.

homeowners insurance should be able to help you with the bill (provided you have insurance)

Beg, borrow, or purloin an impact wrench, otherwise you will not be happy when you snap off a lug!

What i did when this happened to me is i grabbed a 2 foot long breaker bar and put an extension on it to make it 3 feet then i stood on it and jumped. Thats how i got all 4 off. I realize its not that safe but it worked. Now i just use my impact.

Hit each one with a big hammer while also trying all the other suggestions.
Heating with a torch should also help.
