My car use to rev up to 6k or above no problem, not that i took it there all the time, but when i needed to. The other day i was getting on it, i was pretty close to empty, and when i got up to about 5k the car felt like it was out of gas and when i got off of it the car spit and sputtered so i pulled into the gas station and filled up but it only took 8 gallons. Started it up and it started and ran fine so i drove home. That was last week, but ever since my car still won't rev over 4 without sounding like its starving for gas. Possible could it be a fuel pump going out? or could it be something else possibly electrical

It is my understanding that if the tank is below 1/4 full, gas can slosh away from the pump causing it to pump dry momentarily(damaging the pump in the long run). This would happen alot more often if the tank is on fumes. I don't know much about carbs though. Might want to wait until someone more knowledgable posts.1993 Festiva GL

well i know that too, that happens on EFI cars because the pump has an electric motor and the pump is in the tank, but on carb the fuel pump is mechanical, mounted on the head and doesn't have an electric motor(GONE)88 Festiva LX 5 Speed, Factory A/C, Factory Tow Hitch, Tach.

If it will miss when you rev it up while parked, shut the engine off the second it starts missing. Look at the left side of the carb (as you face the engine from the front) and see if there is gas showing in the sight glass on the left side of the carb. You may need a light to see it. Wiggle the car by pushing on it and see if you can see gas sloshing around. If you can then the fuel delivery side is ok. Next start the car and set the parking brake. Rev the engine by working the linkage at the throttle cable until it starts missing. While it is missing grab hold of the secondary linkage and open the throttle for the secondary barrel of the carb. If it still won't rev up, I'm betting your ignition module is going bad.You gonna race that thing?

well the whole distributor is new, but im gonna check it all this weekend, and that doesn't take into account the fact that when i got off it the first time it wanted to die as if it was out of gas(GONE)88 Festiva LX 5 Speed, Factory A/C, Factory Tow Hitch, Tach.

Noticed you list a "carb rebuild" . Was it recent ?
If so, did you adjust or accidentally change the float level ? This could cause a lean condition, which will be more easily noticed at high rpm.
Perhaps a piece of shmeg is partially blocking the main jet. Low-to-mid throttle will be ok, but when you open it up , there isn't enough fuel flow to allow high rpm running.
If you modded the intake , it could cause similar affects. You may need bigger jets if the intake has been seriously altered.
Just a thought. I have had similar issues with motorcycles.

as stated above...when the tank was low you may have sucked something into the line....have you checked the fuel filter....may be partially blocked/clogged."FLTG4LIFE" @FINALLEVEL , "PBH"
